SURVEYOR'S ANNUAL REPORT,
For the Tear ending 25th. March, 1884.
Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit my Fourteenth Annual Report for your consideration,
and to again respectfully draw your attention to the state of
the Paving of the Carriageway, High Street, and my previous reports as
to the same. The Paving has been so frequently repaired that any
further repair is a useless waste of money, and arrangements should be
made, without further delay, for repaving with new material.
I should recommend that the sides of the Roadway, Southwark
Bridge Road should be paved; the traffic has much increased lately, and
the cost of maintaining the macadam on a level with the paving of the
Tramway is very great.
Arrangements have been made for the repairing with Asphalte,
one inch in thickness on the old concrete foundation, those Footways
paved by the Liinmer Asphalte Company eleven years ago, and now
worn out.
The Footways, Great Suffolk Street and Tabard Street, should be
repaved, either with the best material taken up from the Footway,
eastern side of High Street, or with new Paving; the Footways in both
cases are very much worn and out of repair.
With reference to the lighting of the Parish, notwithstanding the
reduction in the price charged by the Gas Companies, I am still of
opinion that a considerable saving could be effected by the adoption of the
Average Meter System, the Vestry would then pny for the amount of
gas consumed and the ratepayers would have the benefit.
