During the year that ended the 31st March, 2099 children born alive, were registered
his District. Of these 1054 were boys, and 1045 wore girls. They were loss in number
??? than in the previous year.
The deaths registered were 1206, showing a decrease to those returned in the preceding
r, indeed, only in one year of the last ten, have the deaths been less, and that was in
2—3. The number of males and females were equal, 603 each. The range of the
???h rate from the one now given to the highest (1869—70) during the last ten years
???unts to 534. In the 37th and 39th weeks of 1876, the deaths fell to the lowest number,
???n each; and they reached the highest in the 50th week of 1876, and the thirteenth
???k of 1877, when the number was 37 in each. The lowest weekly temperature registered
the 10th week, when the mean was 36° 9.
The death rate for the District was 211 in 1000 persons living; or one death in 47
???ona living. Thia ia satiafactory as it ahows that the health and length of life of the
???le are increaaing. In the previoua year the death rate was 24½ in 1000 persona; or one
???h in 40½ persons
