On 20th September, 1898, the Town Hall Management Committee reported with reference
to the following report of the Clerk:—
I heave been for some time past in communication with the Southwark and Vauxhall
Water Company upon the question of the basis of the charge for the supply of water to thy
Town Hall with the view of obtaining a supply by meter, but up to the present without result.
The charge made by the Company is over £40 per annum, which is out of all proportion
to the amount consumed. I have found upon enquiry that the company have already
granted a supply by meter in respect to the Bermondsey Town Hall, and I think if you will
authorise me to continue to press this matter upon the company a like result may be obtained.
The Vestry Resolved, upon the recommendation of the Committee, that the action of the
Clerk be approved, and that he be instructed to press the granting of a supply of water by
meter to the Town Hall upon the Company.
On 18th October, 1898, the Committee reported with reference to the following further
report of the Clerk:—
Since your last meeting I have been in further correspondence with the Secretary of the
Southwark and Vauxhall Water Company, upon the question of the basis of the charge for
the water supplied to the Town Hall, and am pleased to say I am in receipt of a letter stating
that, in deference to the wishes of the Vestry, the Directors are willing to grant a meter
