Whooping Cough.—This disease was fatal in thirty-three eases. Annual average
for ten years, twenty-one deaths.
Diarrhœa.—The number of deaths are below the average and amounted to twentyfour—twenty-three
having occurred under two years of age.
Diptheria.—A considerable diminuation in the number of deaths from this cause
is observable, ten having been registered compared with twenty-six in the former
year.

The Valuation (Metropolis) Act, 1869. Under the provisions of this Act, a new valuation of the properties in this Parish

was made in the year 1875, whereby the Assessment of the Parish was increased as

follows:—

Gross Value.Rateable Value.
From£199,06110s.0d.£155,2880s.0d.
TO£214,0770s.0d.£172,9630s.0d.

Hirths.—For several successive years the number of births has been gradually
increasing, those registered in the year ending March 31st, 1875, amounted to 1209,
and the return for the year ending March 31st, 1876, to 1192, there is consequently a
decrease of seventeen. But this slight check to increase of population need not
occasion surprise, hut should rather be considered a degree of compensation for the
large increase of 1875 over 1874, which amounted to one hundred and forty, or about
an eighth of the whole number.
Deaths.—Six hundred and seventy two deaths were registered during the year,
and as seven hundred and five were recorded in the previous year, the number in
reduced by thirty-three; and by comparing the 1192 births with the 672 deaths, the
excess of births over deaths amounts to 520.
Births registered during the year in quarterly divisions:—
