BOROUGH OF PADDINGTON.
ten of the class of men who apply are naturally
unsuitable for this description of work. They worked
about 7 hours daily, and many of them could only
earn 10½d. to Is. during that time, others about 2s. 6d.
In two instances the rate ranged to 4s. 9d. and 5s. 4d.,
but these were accomplished stone breakers, and had
they been allowed could have earned even more than
this amount per day.
The following list of Tables, Accounts, and Details
accompanying this Report (see Appendix), will furnish
information connected with the many matters carried
out by the Works, Lighting, and Highway Departments
:—
A—Dusting, Slopping, Watering, Carting Roadway Materials,
and General Expenses incidental to the Works Department.
B—Plant Capital Account.
C—Road Sweeping and Cleansing Account.
D—Public Lighting Account.
E—Miscellaneous Articles in Store.
F—Miscellaneous Tools in use.
G—Defects of Un-metered and Metered Lamps.
H—List of Plant fixed in the Public Streets.
