BOROUGH OF PADDINGTON.
In September last two spans of a wire crossing
Church Street and Edgware Road, and in a very
unsafe condition, were removed. The wire and attachments
were very old, and in a dilapidated condition.
The owner of it could not be discovered, although
every effort was made to do so.
Tracings showing the wires belonging to the
General Post Office have been made (these wires are
exempt from the operation of the Act), through the
courtesy of their Engineer, who furnished the information
enabling them to be prepared. They will be
very useful in assisting to identify private wires.
PUBLIC LIGHTING DEPARTMENT.
The number of public lamp posts and bracket
lamps in lighting on the 25th March last was 1,996,
each consuming 4.6 feet of gas per hour, and being in
lighting for a total number of 3,879.99 hours during
the year.
The number of refuge and corner lamps, their candle
and gas consumption, &c.,will be found on pages 122,
125.
The Gas Company have been served with 167
notices during the year for the rectification of defective
services pipes, and for the removal of accumulations of
napthalene, &c., therein.
During the twelve months 10 lamp-posts were
knocked down, 26 columns and stand-pipes broken,
