84 BOROUGH OF PADDINGTON.
Side entrances to Sewers, Sandpits, Gulleys, and
various other repairs to sewers, &c.
The amount expended being £861 13s. 13d.
The works also executed under the same contract,
at the cost of private persons, for the reconstruction
of one hundred and thirty-three pipe drains under
roadways and footways to existing premises, has
amounted to the sum of £1,017 16s. 6d., which has
been received by the Accountant and paid into the
Vestry's Banking Account.
Various private persons have also paid to the Vestry
£16 6s., for examinations of house drains, in order
to obtain information as to their condition, and, if
necessary, to have them reconstructed; also with regard
to obstructions, in order that they might be
relieved. The number examined by the Vestry's
workmen being eighty.
The small brick and pipe sewers, which cannot be
cleansed by hand labour, have been flushed with water
and the deposits therein removed.
New Buildings, &c.
The private houses erected during the year have
been very limited (16 only). As the ground at the
North-Western part of the Parish is nearly covered,
the only portion now available for building purposes
being the ground situate between Sutherland and
Elgin Avenues, and the portion North of Elgin Avenue
and abutting on the Recreation Ground.
