Fever (Typhoid) caused 8 deaths—6 in St. Mary's
and 2 in St. John's sub-district—equivalent to an
annual death-rate of 0.3 per 1,000 inhabitants. The
number of deaths during the corresponding quarter of
last year was 4. 26 cases—22 in St. Mary's and 4 in
St. John's sub-district—were notified during the
quarter to the Sanitary Department, as compared with
24 during the corresponding quarter of last year. 5 of
these cases—4 from St. Mary's and 1 from St. John's
—were removed to Hospital, the remainder—18 in St.
Mary's and 3 in St. John's—being treated at home.
Typhoid Fever.
Westmoreland Road.—Ground opened. Drain defective.
Joints open. No intercepting syphon.
Soil-pipe serves as rain-water pipe. W.C. on landing
of "container" pattern. W.C. in yard a "longhopper
" pan with water-waste preventer.
Hyde Park Gardens.—Water test. Drain sound.
Other sanitary arrangements satisfactory.
Shirland Road.—Water test. Drain defective.
Soil-pipe built into wall and unventilated. One water
supply with water-waste preventer.
Elgin Avenue.—Ground opened. Drain defective.
Clay joints. Bell traps. Apparently no intercepting
syphon. Soil-pipe serves as rain-water pipe and
opens under windows. Rain-water pipe from back
addition directly connected to drain. W.C. on
