234
children, 598 occurred in St. Mary's and 102 in St.
John's Sub-district. The 700 births were equivalent
to an annual rate of 23.2 per 1,000 of the estimated
population of the Parish. In London the births were
equivalent to an annual rate of 29.8 per 1,000 inhabitants.
Deducting from the total deaths (608) those of 60
non-parishioners—59 in St. Mary's Hospital and 1 in
the Lock Hospital—the corrected number of deaths
in the Parish is seen to be 548. To this number must
be added the deaths of 49 parishioners in extraparochial
hospitals and institutions within the Metropolis
during the same period, making a total of 597
deaths—271 males and 326 females—equivalent to
an annual death-rate of 19.8 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births and deaths, together with
the birth and death-rates in the parish, and in its two
sub-districts, during the quarter, is shown in the subjoined
table:—
