the 754 births, comprising 368 male and 386 female
children, 648 occurred in St. Mary's and 106 in St.
John's Sub-district. The 754 births were equivalent
to an annual rate of 25.3 per 1,000 of the estimated
population of the Parish. In London the births were
equivalent to an annual rate of 30.7 per 1,000
inhabitants.
Deducting from the total deaths (518) those of 91
non.parishioners in St. Mary's Hospital, the corrected
number of deaths in the Parish is seen to be 427.
To this number must be added the deaths of 44
parishioners in extra.parochial hospitals and institutions
within the Metropolis during the same period,
making a total of 471 deaths—233 males and 238
females—equivalent to an annual death.rate of 15*8
per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births and deaths, together with
the birth and death.rate in the Parish, and in its two
sub.districts, during the quarter, is shown in the subjoined
table :—
