Registrars of Births and Deaths—St. Mary's District, William

IV. Poor-Law Administration.
The Paddington Workhouse and Infirmary are situate in the
Harrow Road; the management is at present in the hands of a Board
of Guardians, Eighteen of whom are Elected Guardians (elected
by the Ratepayers). The resident Justices of the Peace are
ex-officio Members of the Board. Paddington is united with
St. George, Hanover Square, and Fulham, to form a District
called the West London School District, the Schools being at
Ashford, near Staines.
The next election of Guardians will be based upon a recent order of the London County Council, by which the Members on the Board will be increased from 18 to 24, representing six Wards, as follow, viz.:—(For Ward Boundaries see page 13).

V. The School Board.
In 1870, Paddington and the parishes of St. Marylebone,
St. Pancras, and St. John, Hampstead, were formed into one of
the Metropolitan Districts for the purposes of the Elementary
Education Act (33 and 34 Victoria, cap. 75), under the name of the
Marylebone Division of the School Board for London, which
Division returns Seven Members to the School Board.
