limited extent, is undesirable. Your Committee have, therefore,
framed recommendations so as to cover the entire staff
of sweepers. As regards the Foremen of Road Sweepers,
your Committee consider that their wages should be regulated
according to length of service, such service to date from the
time when first employed under the Vestry. They therefore
recommend:—
A.— That the wages of Road Sweepers be raised from
2s. 8d. to 3s. per day—in other words, from 16s. to 18s.
per week; the rate for overtime to Sweepers to be raised
from 3½d. to 4d. per hour; and that the Road Foremen's
wages be regulated as follows :—
21s. per week up to 5 years' service,
22s. per week between 5 and 10 years' service,
23s. per week between 10 and 15 years, and a
maximum of
24s. per week after 15 years.
ROAD PECKERS.
4.—Taking into consideration the amount paid under the
head of labour by other Local Authorities, the wages of
these men should, in the opinion of your Committee, be increased.
As regards the two Foremen, who are receiving

that 26s. should be the maximum weekly wage. They therefore
recommend—
B That the wages of the Peckers be raised from 3s.
