The following table shows the ratio of deaths to the population, together with the death-rate per 1,000 of the population of the parish and of its two Sub-districts:—

During the year there were 435 deaths of infants
under one year of age, 683 of children under five
years of age, and 576 of persons aged 65 years and
upwards.
The rate of infantile mortality in Paddington was
148 per 1,000 registered births. In London the rate
was 155, and in the 33 largest provincial towns it
ranged from 123 in Croydon to 216 in Preston.
The 683 deaths of children under 5 years of age
constituted 31.9 per cent. of the total deaths. 209
of these deaths were due to one or other of the seven
principal zymotic diseases, of which 180 occurred in
St. Mary's, and 29 in St. Johns Sub-district.
Zymotic Diseases.
The number of deaths from the seven principal
zymotic diseases was 248, and was equivalent to an
annual rate of 2.1 per 1,000 inhabitants. In London,
