BOROUGH OF PADDINGTON.
Building.
The Building has been maintained in an efficient state
of repair, much of the work being carried out by the
employes during the winter months.
The Roof of the Ladies' Swimming Bath being in a
very defective condition, the Commissioners are considering
the question of overhauling the same, and
painting the interior.
Gallery.
A Gallery is now in course of erection in the Ladies'
Swimming Bath, at a cost of £34 10s., and the Commissioners
believe that it will be much appreciated by
those who wish to watch the swimming.
Machinery.
The old Boilers, which, as mentioned in last Report,
have been in constant work for 17 years, developed
unmistakeable signs of breaking down, and being so
dangerously thin in many places, as to be impossible
of repair, the Commissioners, after due consideration,
thought they would be following an economical course
by laying down a set of three new Boilers. Advertisements
were therefore issued, and Tenders with Plans
received from twelve firms, extending over all parts of the
Country. The deliberations on these occupied a considerable
amount of time and attention and resulted in
the acceptance of the Tender of Messrs. Rennie & Co.,
of Greenwich, for three Steel Multi-Tubular Highpressure
Boilers of 50 h.p., for the sum of £970. In
accepting this Tender, the Commissioners had regard
to the reduced length of the Boilers, viz., 14-ft. 10-in.
as against 26-ft., thus giving a much larger working
space in the Boiler Room, which has hitherto been greatly
