XXIV. Deputy-Chairman of Vestry.
On the 2nd June, 1890, it was resolved, on the
Motion of Mr. Mark H. Judge—" That in the opinion
of the Vestry a frequent change of Chairman is
undesirable, and that therefore a Deputy-Chairman
be appointed to preside at all meetings of the Vestry
in the absence of the Ex-Officio Chairman, and that
he be elected annually at the time of the Election of
Standing Committees ; also that the nominations for
the first Deputy-Chairmanship do take place at the
next meeting of the Vestry, and the election at the
following meeting, provided more than one candidate
be nominated." On the 17th June Mr. William
Henry Mills was unanimously elected the DeputyChairman
of the Vestry for the current year. This
arrangement has not only given general satisfaction
to the members of the Board, but has been the
means of expediting business.
