Deaths.
The total number of deaths registered in Paddington
during the year was 1,915. Of this number, 271
were of non-parishioners who died in St. Mary's Hospital,
48 were of non-parishioners who died in the
Children's Hospital, and 2 were of non-parishioners
who died in the Lock Hospital, making a total of 321
non-parishioners who died in the parish.
Deducting these non-parishioners, it will be seen
that 1,594 parishioners died actually in Paddington.
To this number must be added the deaths of 70
parishioners in extra-parochial hospitals and public
institutions, making a corrected total of 1,664—844
males and 820 females—equivalent to an annual
death-rate of 14.2 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The natural increase of population from the excess
of births over deaths was 1,199, as compared with 927
in the previous year.
Of the 1,664 deaths, 1,266 occurred in St. Mary's
and 398 in St. John's Sub-district. The deaths in St.
Mary's include 51—24 males and 27 females—in the
Workhouse, and 121—70 males and 51 females—in
the Paddington Infirmary.
The deaths were most numerous during the first,
and least so in the second quarter of the year.
