BOROUGH OF PADDINGTON.
A copy of the resolution was sent to each Vestry
and District Board in the Metropolis, as well as to
the Metropolitan Board of Works. The majority of
the bodies referred to expressed their approval
of the resolution. The steps taken by the Vestry,
supported in the House of Commons by the Member
for South Paddington, Lord Randolph Churchill,
led to the appointment of the Royal Commission
of Inquiry into the working of the Metropolitan
Board of Works, and the alleged irregularities connected
with the said Board.
XXXVIII. Baths and Wash-houses Inquiry,
In consequence of the absconding of the Superintendent
of the Baths and Wash-houses, and alleged
defalcation in the Accounts, a Special Committee was
appointed by the Vestry in December, 1887, to
inquire into the affairs of the institution. The
Inquiry was a very exhaustive one, and the Report
of the Committee which was published on March
19th, 1888 (consisting of 146 pages), furnished
information on various matters connected with the
administration of the Baths, including the
following:—
List of Commissioners from the commencement.
The Accounts in detail from the opening of the Baths.
The Annual Statements of Accounts.
The Bye Laws. ,
Returns from Paddington and ten other Metropolitan Baths.
