BOROUGH OF PADDINGTON.
The ten years' maintenance contract by the
Improved Wood Pavement Company for the wood
paving in Westbourne Grove will expire in November
next, and it will be more economical for the Ve3try
not to renew the contract, but to carry out the repairs
and renewals by their own workmen.
Maintenance of Channels and Footways.
The necessary repairs and renewals to the paved
footways, crossings and channels throughout the
Parish, also restoring those which were disturbed for
gas and water services, drains, hoardings, and scaffoldings,
have been carried out by the Vestry's workmen,
and in some instances by the contractor for paving
works. 2 miles, 3 furlongs, and 29 yards lineal of old
footways have been thus treated, 9,996 superficial
yards of wood paving renewed, and 185 yards superficial
of channel and carriageway paving laid on 6
inches of concrete. During the year the Gas and
Water Companies opened up a great number of
trenches in the roads and footways for the purpose of
repairing the mains and service pipes, also laying in
mains of larger diameter. The amounts thus received
from the Companies in question for this work was
£1,299 10s. 2d.
The powers under the 105 Section of the Metropolis
Local Management Act have been carried out in
Portsdown Road, from No. 190 to 250.
