The Paddington Workhouse and Infirmary are situate in the
Harrow Road; the management is in the hands of Eighteen
Elected Guardians, together with the resident Justices of the
Peace. Paddington is united with St. George, Hanover Square,
and Fulham, to form a District called the West London School
District. The Schools for the Workhouse children are at Ashford,
near Staines.
There are Fifteen Ecclesiastical Districts in Paddington, as
follows, viz.:—
St. James's, All Saints', Christ Church,
„ John's, St. Matthew's, St. Mary Magdalene,
„ Mary's, „Luke's, „ Peter's,
Holy Trinity, „ Saviour's, „ Stephen's,
St. Paul's, „ Michael and All Angels, „ Augustine's.
The Gas consumed in Paddington is supplied by The Gas Light
and Coke Company, and the Water by two Companies, viz.:—the
Grand Junction Waterworks Company and the West Middlesex
Waterworks Company.
There are certain charities under the control of the Vestry,
managed by Trustees appointed by the Vestry and the Charity
Commissioners, and having an annual income of over Two
Thousand Pounds, which is yearly distributed to the Poor in Coals
and Blankets, in Grants to the Parochial National Schools, in
apprenticing sons and daughters of poor parishioners, and in
Annuities to aged persons resident in the Parish, &c.
