METEOROLOGY.
Mr. James Glaisher,F.R. S.,in his report to the Registrar-General
on the Meteorology of England during the quarter, says, that the
weather in April, after the first week, was cold and stormy until
the 18th, and variable afterwards until the 28th. During the
afternoon of this day a remarkable fall of 20 degrees took place.
The East wind was unusually prevalent.
The mean temperature of the air for April was 46°.4, being
0°.3 above the average of 115 years.
In May the weather was for the most part cold and stormy.
The rain-fall was excessive, causing serious and destructive
floods in Hereford, Shropshire, and adjacent counties.
