346 male and 371 female children, 571 occurred in St. Mary's,
and 146 in St. John's Sub-district. The 717 births were equivalent
to an annual rate of 25.6 per 1,000 of the estimated
population of the parish. In London the births were equal to
an annual rate of 31.9 per 1,000.
Deducting from the total deaths (439) those of 64 nonparishioners—55
in St. Mary's Hospital, 7 in the Children's
Hospital, Paddington Green, and 2 in the Lock Hospital—the
corrected number of deaths in the parish is seen to be 375.
To this number must be added the deaths of 26 parishioners
in extra parochial hospitals and institutions within the metropolis
during the same period, making a total of 401 deaths—219
males and 1 82 females—equivalent to an annual death-rate of
14'3 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births and deaths, together with the birth
and death-rates in the parish, and in its two sub-districts during
the quarter, is shown in the subjoined table:—
