413 male and 370 female children, 646 occurred in St. Mary's,
and 137 in St. Johns Sub-district. The 783 births were equivalent
to an annual rate of 28.0 per 1,000 of the estimated
population of the parish. In London the births were equal to
an annual rate of 34.3 per 1,000.
Deducting from the total deaths (650) those of 73 nonparishioners—61
in St. Mary's Hospital, 9 in the Children's
Hospital, Paddington Green, and 3 in the Lock Hospital —the
corrected number of deaths of parishioners in the parish is seen
to be 577. To this number must be added the death of 17
parishioners in extra parochial hospitals and institutions within
the metropolis during the same period, making a total of 594
deaths—289 males and 305 females—equivalent to an annual
death-rate of 21.2 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The number of births and of deaths, together with the birth
and death-rates in the parish, and in its two sub-districts during
the quarter, is shown in the subjoined table:—
