METEOROLOGY.
Mr. James Glaisher, in his Report to the Registrar
General, says that the weather in October was wet and cold.
The rainfall in England was above the average. Snow fell
on two days. The mean temperature of the air was 46-1,
being 37 below the average of 114 years.
In November, the weather during the first three weeks
was cold, with occasional frosts. The last week was warm.
East and north-east winds prevailed. The mean temperature
of the air was 43.3, being 1.0 above the average of 114 years.
In December the weather was gloomy, damp, and foggy.
Snow fell frequently but soon disappeared. The mean
temperature of the air was 38.9, being 0.2 below the average
of 114 years.
The mean temperature of the quarter was 42.8. The
rainfall in London during the quarter was 7.37 inches.
