in St. Mary's and 147 in St. John's Sub-district. The 736
births were equivalent to an annual rate of 26.3 per 1,000 of
the estimated population of the parish. In London the
births were equal to an annual rate of 32.8 per 1,000.
Deducting from the total deaths (474) those of 56 nonparishioners—42
in St. Mary's Hospital, 12 in the Children's
Hospital, Paddington Green, and 2 in the Lock Hospital—
the corrected number of deaths in the parish is seen to be
418. To this number must be added the deaths of 16
parishioners in extra-parochial hospitals and institutions
within the metropolis during the same period, making a total
of 434 deaths—201 males and 233 females—equivalent to an
annual death-rate of 15.5 per 1,000 inhabitants. The number
of births and of deaths, together with the birth and deathrates
in the parish, and in its two sub-districts, during the
quarter, is shown in the subjoined table:—
