years of age, representing respectively 23.1 and 36.5
per cent. of the total deaths in the Parish.
The rate of infantile mortality.in Paddington was
145 deaths to 1,000 registered births. In London the
rate was 148, and in the 27 largest provincial towns it
ranged from 124 in Hull to 218 in Preston.
Zymotic Diseases.
Small-pox caused 11 deaths, equivalent to a rate
of 0.09 per 1,000 inhabitants. 73 cases—64 from
St. Mary's and 9 from St. John's Sub-district—were
removed to the hospitals, 4 being sent to the Smallpox
Hospital at Highgate and 69 to the Asylum
Hospitals.
In London the rate was 0.22.
Measles caused 63 deaths—57 in St. Mary's and
6 in St. John's—equivalent to a rate of 0'56 per
1,000 inhabitants.
In London the rate was 0.72.
Scarlet Fever caused 8 deaths, equivalent to a rate
of 0.07 per 1,000 inhabitants. 41 cases—33 from
St. Mary's and 8 from St. John's—were removed to the
hospitals, 3 being sent to the London Fever Hospital
and 38 to the Asylum Hospitals.
In London the rate was 0.17.
