METEOROLOGY.
Mr. James Glaisher, E.R.S., in his Report to the RegistrarGeneral,
remarks that in July the weather was warm and
dry, with an almost total absence of lightning and thunder.
The mean temperature of the air was 63.8, being 2.1 above
the average of 114 years. The barometer readings were high
throughout the month.
In August the weather was cold, the mean temperature,
58.5, only reaching its average on two days. The fall of rain
was below the average. The atmospheric pressure was
variable.
The weather in September was unsettled. The temperature
was variable, the mean for the month being 55.1, which was
1.4 below the average of 114 years.
The mean temperature of the quarter was 59.1, being
0.6 below the average of 114 years.
The rainfall in London during the quarter was 5.55 inches.
