Diphtheria.
973 deaths occurred from diphtheria in London,
equivalent to a rate of 0.24 per 1,000 inhabitants.
This rate is identical with that of last year, which
was a higher rate than any recorded during the
preceding 20 years. In Paddington there were 28
deaths—13 in St. Mary's and 15 in St. John's Subdistrict—equivalent
to a rate of 0.26 per 1,000
inhabitants.
Whooping Cough.
Whooping cough caused in London 3,188 deaths,
giving a rate of 0.78 per 1,000 inhabitants. In
Paddington there were 48 deaths—42 in St. Mary's
and 6 in St. John's—giving a rate of 0.43 per 1,000
inhabitants.
Fever.
Fever, including typhus, typhoid, and simple
continued fever caused in London 1,045 deaths, or a
mortality of 0.26 per 1,000 living. In Paddington
there were 17 deaths, viz., 16 from typhoid and 1
from,simple continued fever.
Diarrhoea.
Diarrhoea caused 3,781 deaths in London, equivalent
to a death-rate of 0.93 per 1,000 inhabitants.
In Paddington there were 69 deaths—65 in St.
