During the 13 weeks ending July 3rd, being the second
quarter of the registration year 1880, 739 births and 400
deaths were registered in Paddington. The 739 births, comprising
368 male and 371 female children, show an annual
birth rate of 26 per 1,000 of the estimated population of the
parish. Deducting the deaths of 39 non-parishioners in the
two hospitals in the parish,— 38 in St. Mary's Hospital, and I
in the Lock Hospital,—from the total deaths, 400, the corrected
number is seen to be 361,—171 males and 190 females,—
giving an annual death rate equal to 12.7 per 1,000 inhabitants.
During the corresponding quarter of the previous
