where the drains were broken in, or otherwise so
defective as to necessitate their reconstruction, new
stoneware pipe drains were constructed at the applicant's
cost.
Such of the large brick sewers, and more especially
those with segmental inverts, which have not sufficient
fall in their gradients to allow the sewage
matter to flow freely away, are cleansed from time
to time by the removal of deposits which had
accumulated therein, and to still further improve
their sanitary condition water was freely used for
flushing them. The small brick and pipe sewers are
also periodically flushed with water.
The accumulation of deposit in the sewers as
before stated, amounting to one hundred and seventythree
cubic yards, has been removed during the
year by the Vestry's workmen. The removals of
road detritus from catch-pits number 27,138, representing
two thousand two hundred and twenty-eight
cubic yards carted away, thereby keeping the pits
clear for the rainfall to have free course from the
roads to the sewers.
Workmen employed by the Vestry attend daily
to the condition of the urinals, which are fixed in
various streets of the parish.
