In 1879 the death rate for London was 23.3 per 1,000.

The evidence of improved sanitation throughout
the Metropolis generally is seen in the reduction of
the death rate which for some years has been going
on—though not in equal proportions—in each one
of the five groups of registration districts. The
reduction has been most marked in the west and
south districts.
The following Table shows the ratio of deaths to the population, and the death-rate per 1,000 in the Parish, and in its two Sub-districts:—
