The deaths for 13 weeks of this quarter are 417 out of an
estimated population of 96,876.
The rate of mortality is 17.2 per 1000. Births number 718,
or at the rate of 29.6 for every 1000. The infant portion of
the population increases fast. The deaths being less by 32 than
last quarter, indicate a temporary saving of life which would
appear to be in the class of Zymotic diseases that affect the
infantile portion of the population.
The deaths from the Zymotic class of disease are only 66,
or half of the last and of many previous quarters, viz. :—135.
Epidemic or Summer diarrhœa, which accounts for 86 deaths
