COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE NORTH AND SOUTH SIDES OF THE
THAMES BELOW LONDON BRIDGE.
The attention of the Board was called to the important question
of forming a communication between the north and south sides of
the River Thames below London Bridge for vehicular traffic. The
matter was referred to the Works and Survey Committee who
made a report thereon. In accordance therewith, invitations were
sent to several of the Local Authorities at the East End of London
asking them to appoint delegates to consider whether such accommodation
is required, and if so, where the communication should
be made. Delegates were appointed by certain of the Districts who
passed a resolution that it was highly desirable that all the Local
Authorities East of London Bridge should express their opinion
upon the subject.
In the meantime a plan was prepared by me of a Subway to
form a communication between the Commercial Road East, and the
Lower Road, Deptford, which was approved by the Board, and a
copy was sent to the Metropolitan Board of Works and to the several
Local Authorities at the East End.
