the question of the ventilation of the sewers in year district. The
importance of the successful solution of this question is ????
London is undermined with sewers, and into them is di???
animal matter, frequently of an in fections character, which, if ???
speedily carried away, passes into a condition most injurious to ???
life. If the sewers are not properly and efficiently ???, the
gases contained in them acquire sufficient pressure to force the
ordinary traps of houses drains, and find their way into our dwellings,
carrying with them the means of generating. Enteric fever,
diphtheria, and possibly other diseases of a like character. On the
other hand, the measures adopted for ventilating the sewers,
allow the contained gases to escape into our ???
latino of the sewers bring matter of ???, the questions
to be solved is, how can it be performed with the ???
possible annoyance and danger to the public. I am of opinion that
subjected to the influences of a high temperature, or conducted to a
height of some feet above the highest windows of our ???,
would be an effectual method of dealing with the question.
Tenbury Place came under my notice several times during the
year, and I am glad to be able to inform you that the sanitary
condition of this place is much improved.
