LIGHTING.
The number of public lamps in the district is 738, being an increase of
27 on the number reported at Lady-day, 1867. Several new streets in Limehouse
have been lighted. An arrangement has been made with the Trustees
of the River Lea, whereby this Board has agreed to maintain and keep
lighted the four lamps on the bridges carrying Risbie's Rope Walk and
Narrow Street, over the Limehouse Cut, in consideration of the sum of JS15
per annum, being paid by the Trustees.
PUBLIC URINALS.
There has been no increase of Urinals in the District. The iron
Urinals have been painted. The Urinal at Back Road, Shadwell, has been
taken down, and re-fixed at the west end of Ann Street. Ratcliff. The
Urinal at the east end of Short Street, Shadwell, has been removed a few feet
further west, and fixed upon the footpath.
In consequence of the excessive cost of the water for the constant supply
to some of the Urinals, the same has been removed, and the whole are now
Hushed and cleansed with water by men employed by the Board.
