to them of some power, or authority, in relation to any system of
underground traction to be adopted, and with regard to the
breaking-up and reinstatement of roads and footways.
The Bill was, while in Committee, further amended so as to
preclude the use of steam power or the overhead trolly system of
traction, and the promoters agreed to incorporate parts IT and III
of the Tramways Act, 1870, and sec. 23 of the Company's Special
Act, 1888, with some modification, in sub-sections 10 and 12
relating to the costs of the Bill. This section was inserted in the
Act of 1888 for the protection of the Board, and its incorporation

Tramways which may hereafter be worked by them in connection

in connection with the surface or underground system so adopted
by the Council.
