effected a great improvement in the drainage of the houses in
the Mount, and also of some of the houses on Sydenham-hill,
which drain to this road. A sewer between Bradford and Prospect
Roads was taken up and relaid for a portion of its length.
The Sewer in Wynell-road, mentioned in my last report, was
completed. A brick Sewer between Hadlow-place and Brunswick-place,
Penge, was found to have crashed in, and was taken
up and rebuilt.

The following table shows the number of houses sanctioned to be built, drained, &c., and number of gulleys and ventilators constructed:—

Manholes were built in Sydenham and Forest Hill, in
Sydenham-hill-road, Springfield, and Home Park Depot; in
Penge, in Hadlow-place, Stembridge-road, Tremaine-road, and
Oak-grove. The ventilating colunm in Carholme-road was raised
six feet, and a special ventilating column, with a fan in its base
driven by water power, was fixed in Sunder]and-road. The
water after driving the fan is used for flushing sewers.
IMPROVEMENTS.
The greatest improvement carried out during the year was
the widening of Dartmouth-road from No. 49 to the corner of
