Considerable delay has been experienced in obtaining the
various glazed bricks required. At the present time the works
aie now being rapidly finished, and will, I hope, be ready for
use in the course of a few weeks.
RAILWAY AND OTHER SCHEMES.
Several important schemes affecting the District were projected
during the year, viz:—
1. The London County Council Light Railways (Deptford,
Shooters Hill, and Woolwich).
2. The London County Council Light Railways (New Cross,
Lewisham, and Eltham).
3. The London County Council Improvements.
4. The South Eastern and London, Chatham and Dover
Railways (new railways and widenings).
5. South Eastern Metropolitan Tramways.
With regard to the schemes Nos. 1 and 2 of Light Railways,
projected by the London County Council, power was sought,
where it was proposed to lay a single line, and where the width
of the carriageway and footways together is not less than 36 feet,
and the width of the carriageway is less than 24 feet, that the

Loampit Hill and Vale. I made detailed reports on these schemes
to the Works and General Purposes Committee. The Board
opposed both Bills before the Light Railway Commissioners, and
their opposition was successful. I prepared plans, and a proof of
evidence was drawn.
With reference to scheme No. 3—the London County Council
Improvements. This was a Bill to obtain power to purchase
the forecourts, &c., of houses in Loampit ^ ale and Loampit
Hill, in order to widen the roads or thoroughfares. I he Bill was
withdrawn at the last minute. Plans and evidence were prepared.
No. 4.—This is a scheme to widen a portion of the South
Eastern Railway (North Kent Branch) between Elverson Road
and the River Ravensbourne, near Lewisham Junction Station.
The most important matter affecting the Lewisham District is
