ratory organs was 329, or 80 more than last year. Of this
number 61 deaths were attributed directly to Influenza, as
compared with 29 only in 1894.
Inquests.
Coroner's inquests were held in 78 cases of death.
The causes of death were returned as follows:—
Natural causes 36
Violent deaths 42
Of these latter 24 were accidental, 16 suicidal, and 2 homicidal.
Twenty-five deaths were registered as "Not Certified."
Marriages.
During the year 1895 there were 495 Marriages in the
Parish of Lewisham, of which 365 were solemnised in the
various Churches, 43 in Dissenting Chapels, and 87 at the
Registrar's Office.
During the same period there were 148 marriages in the
Hamlet of Penge, of which 107 were solemnised in Churches,
14 in Dissenting Chapels, and 26 at the Registrar's Office.
Total 642, as compared with 652 in 1894.
The marriage rate was equal to 12'4 persons married
per 1,000 of estimated population.
Meteorology.
The mean temperature of the air at Greenwich in 1895
was 47 9.
The highest reading by day, 87.3, was registered in
September, and the lowest reading by night, 6 9, in Feb.
Rain fell on 158 days. The total amount of rainfall was
1975 inches.
