REPORT
to
The Board of Works for the Lewisham District
TO THE END OF THE YEAR 1895,
by
Dr. S. BLAKE JOLLY,
Medical Officer of Health for the District.
Gentlemen,
The number of de;iths registered us having occurred in
the Lewisham District during the year 1895 was 1456. Of
these 59 were of persons who did not belong to this District,
while, on the other hand, 99 persons belonging to the District
died in hospitals and asylums outside, making the actual
total of deaths 1496, as against 1404 in the previous year,
and the corrected death rate for 1895 14 44 per 1000, as
compared with 14-0 per 1000 in 1894.

cases of typhoid notified, with 9 deaths, against 63 cases in
1894, with 15 deaths. Only 2 cases of small-pox were
notified during 1895. Thus on the whole there has been a
decrease in the notifications of zymotic diseases, and also in the
death rate from that cause. Influenza, on the contrary, was
