will discharge a very large quantity of water, and cannot fail to
be of great service during heavy floods in the Ravensbourne.
The Cartshed was built by Messrs. F. C. Stokes and Co., and
the Caretaker's cottage by Mr. James Laird.
The entrance road way has been kerbed, the carriage way
paved with granite pitchers on Portland cement concrete, and the
footpath paved with Imperial stone. Messrs. John Mowlem and
Co. executed these works.
IMPROVEMENTS, FRONTAGE LINES, &c.
The improvement at Catford Hill in connection with the
Shortlands and Nunhead Railway crossing the road there, and the
re-building of the Ravensbourne p.h. is nearly completed. The
road has been widened and the kerb and channel reset. I have
delayed completing the end next stanstead Road until the new
sewer is finished, as these works would disturb the kerb and
channel.
A small slip of the roadway occurred at Rosamond Street,
to Prevent a recurrence of which a small concrete wall was built.
The enclosures at Rushey Green were extended to the Fire
Engine Station. Five more plantations were fenced in, turfed,
Ac.; they are now complete from Honley Road to the Black
Horse p.h.
A great deal of time is devoted to the cleansing of sewers.
In addition to scrubbing out of the brick sewers as hitherto,
I have had Home brushes made, which are worked on the sewer
rods, for cleaning all the pipe sewers. By these means, and continual
flushing both by water carts and the automatic flushing
tanks of which a list is appended, the sewers are kept In as clean
a state as possible. The sewer men were also much engaged in
finding the Position of stoppages and other defects in drains prior
to serving notices.
The London County Council requested suggestions on 16
applications relative to buildings beyond the general line, &c.,
&c., on which I reported to the Board. The manner in which
these were dealt with will be seen in a table at the end of this
report.
