As compared with the record of the previous year, the foregoing
Table shows 154 inches less rain, and 25 fewer rainy days.
There was not any heavy fall of snow during the winter.
The frosts were, however, extremely severe and the following
quantities of sand, ashes and grit were spread upon the roads
during frosty and slippery weather:—

The Table below gives the total amount of material put upon
the roads since 1889 and up to 1892:—

The roads have not had the usual quantity of material put
upon them for some time past, and with the increased traffic
care must be taken not to allow them to get into a bad state
of repair.
ROAD WATERING.
In the Blackheath Division Mr. W. Joy supplied horses,
harness and drivers for the purpose of road watering at 9s. 6d.
per day. Mr. G. Sabin supplied horses, harness and drivers at
9s. 6d. per day, when required, in the Lewisham Division, the
Board's horses being chiefly employed in this Division.
Mr. W. Stimpson supplied the whole of the horses, harness,
and drivers in the Sydenham and Forest Hill Division at 8s. 3d.
per day.
In the Hamlet of Penge the horses, harness and drivers were
supplied by Mr. R. Winnifrith at 8s. 0d. per day.
