kept, so that they might become aware of the places in which
outworkers were employed, and in order that prompt measures
might be taken to deal with any sanitary evils found existing
in such places.
Catford and Ladywell Bridges.
The attention of the Board having been called to the
inadequate width of these bridges for the ever-increasing
traffic over them, they addressed a Memorial to the London
County Council with reference thereto, urging that the
bridges, which are in part County Bridges, should be widened
and improved. This matter is under the consideration of
the Council.
Overhead Wires.
The Bye-laws made by the London County Council, and
confirmed by the Board of Trade, under the London Overhead
Wires Act, 1891, came into operation during the year.
These Bye-laws require the registration of all wires existing
at the date of the approval of the Bye-laws, and the owners
have to furnish the Council and the Local Authority with
particulars for that purpose.
The Bye-laws also require the owners to furnish the
Council and the Local Authority with particulars of all new
wires to be erected and plans show ing the routes of the wires,
and other information.
The Board obtained a list of all wires in this District,
with the exception of those of the Postmaster-General, and
gave notice of the Bye-laws to the owners requiring them to
furnish the information required for the purpose of registration,
and this matter is in hand.
Parliamentary Proceedings.
The Board considered the following Bills introduced
into Parliament during the year:—
A Bill, promoted by the London, Brighton and South
Coast Railway, Company for acquiring additional
land at Forest Hill for Railway purposes.
