Permanganate of Potash 9 cwt.
Sanitas Powder 7½ tons.
Jeyes' Perfect Purifier 165 gallons.
Carbolic Powder 1 ton.
The total cost of the above was £181.
These disinfectants were used for dustbins, urinals, sewers,
drains, &c.
There were no complaints during the year relative to the
discharge of hot water from the Forest Hill Brewery, and I have
great hope that the tank lately constructed will be a success.
Some flooding occurred in the District during the year, particularly
in the neighbourhood of Stanstead and the southern end
of Brockley Roads. I made special reports to the Works and
General Purposes Committee on the subject, and prepared plans
and sections of storm water relief works, which consisted of the
following:—A storm water barrel, 4 feet in diameter, from the
River Ravensbourne at Catford Bridge, to the junction of Catford
Hill with Stanstead Road; from that point an egg-shaped drain,
4 ft. by 2 ft. 8 in., to the junctions of Stanstead and Brockley
Roads, and a 24 in. pipe from Stanstead Road, along Brockley
Road as far as St. Germans Road. There were two storm water
overflows falling into the proposed drains—one from the Stanstead
Road sewer at the junction of Brockley Road and another from
Brockley Road sewer at the junction with St. Germans Road. I
estimated the total cost at £4,771. Some difficulty arose with
the County Council, and the matter stands in abeyance.
The old brick sewer passing under the London Brighton and
South Coast Railway near Anerley Station had to be repaired, and
also the same sewer was repaired near Thicket Road. In both
cases the damage was done by excessive rainfall.
The following sewers were constructed, at the cost of the
Shortlands and Nunhead Railway Company, under their railway,
in order to avoid laying the sewers when the line was completed:
size.
Beckenham Lane 18 inch.
Southend Lane 24 „
Redvers Road 3ft. 6in. by 2ft. 4in.
Brockley Lane 12 inch.
The 12-inch pipe sewer draining Westdown Road was diverted
in order to take it from under the embankment of the railway at
