COLLECTION OF DUST.
Parish of Lewisham.
The difficulty of the disposal of house refuse, &c., to which
reference has been made in several of my former reports, has again
increased this year, and the Works and General Purposes Committee
took into consideration the advisability of erecting a
Destructor; a Sub-Committee of that Committee visited the
Destructor at Hornsey, but after consideration the scheme was
abandoned for the present. No dust has been sold for a long
time. I found free shoots for some, but a good deal had to be
paid for. The following table shews to whom the dust was supplied,
whether free or the Board had to pay for the shoot, with
the amount of such payment.
There can be no doubt that the
collection and disposal of dust will soon become a difficult question to solve, but I do not hesitate to say so long as the shoots we are using are open, the Board cannot do better than use them.
