In the whole of the Sydenham and Forest Hill Division Mr.
W. Stirapson supplied horses, harness, and drivers at 8s. per day.
Mr. R. Winnifrith supplied the horses, harness and drivers
for Watering in the Hamlet of Penge at 7s. 6d. per day.

STREET LIGHTING.
The South Metropolitan Gas Company and the Crystal
Palace District Gas Company supply gas to, light, extinguish,
and clean the lamps in the Parish of Lewisham, the former supplying
ordinary lamps, 18 special lamps—and one lamp which is
paid for jointly by the Board and Messrs. Whitbread—at the
"White Hart" urinal; the latter Company supplying 853 ordinary
and 19 special lamps.
In the Hamlet of Penge the Crystal Palace District Gas Company
supply 875 ordinary and 16 special lamps.
The South Metropolitan Gas Company charge £3 3s. 9d.
and the Crystal Palace District Gas Company £3 2s. 10d. per
lamp per annum for ordinary lamps, including supplying with gas,
lighting, extinguishing, and cleaning; 5 per cent, discount is
allowed for cash within one month. No alteration was made in
these prices during the year, although the Crystal Palace District
Gas Company increased the price of gas to private consumers.
In the Parish of Lewisham 43 lamps were removed from one
place to another, and 8 in the Hamlet of Penge, to improve the
lighting, or in consequence of street paving works. A lamp from
the footpath adjoining the Brighton Railway was moved to the
Footbridge at Park End.
The burner of the Special lamp in Loampit Yale was increased
in size, and one ordinary lamp in Dartmouth Road, Forest Hill,
was discontinued, and a special lamp erected in its place.
In the Hamlet of Penge 4 ordinary lamps were discontinued
and 5 special lamps were erected.
