This increased the width of Wells Road on an average from 31
feet to 38 feet. A very substantial improvement was thus effected
with little cost to the Board: the work has been completed.
An improvement was made in setting back the forecourt
fence of Nos. 101 and 103, High Street, Sydenham, about 6 feet.
During the year there were 15 communications received
from the Superintending Architect of the County Council, asking
for suggestions on frontage lines, &c., &c., under the 75th and
other sections of the Metropolis Local Management Act. I reported
on them, and the following table will show the result of
these applications.
There were 113 statutory notices served on builders, &c., for
commencing to build before giving notice, several summonses
were taken out, and in all cases where proceedings were taken
convictions were obtained for this and other offences.
A number of trees were planted in the roads, and a large
number of street nameplates put up on walls and public lamps,
&c., &c.
The South Eastern Railway have not commenced to widen
their main line through Lewisham, nor do I hear anything about
the Station at Further Green.
One hundred and eighty-two drawings and tracings were
made in my office during the year, also a large number of estimates
prepared, specifications, reports and letters written.

Your obedient servant,
