for suggestions upon frontage lines of buildings, &c., under the
75th and other sections of the Metropolis Local Management
Act, 1862, which I reported upon. The following Table will
show the result of these applications.
I have again to mention that nothing, so far as I can ascertain,
has been done by the South Eastern Railway to widen their
main line (Tonbridge section) where it passes through the District,
nor do I hear anything about the promised station at
Hither Green.
There were 106 statutory notices served on builders for
commencing to build without giving notice, and some summonses
taken out, and convictions obtained for this and other offences.
Several rows of trees were planted in the roads, &c. Many street
name boards and plates were put up, and a large number of
tablets fixed upon the lanterns of the street lamps.
During the year there were 185 drawings and tracings
made in my office, a great number of reports, specifications and
estimates prepared, together with many letters written. I append
to this Report a list of New Streets sanctioned by the Metropolitan
Board of Works during the year.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
JOHN CARLINE, C.E.,
Mem. San. Inst.,
Surveyor to the Board.
The Board of Works for the
Lewisham District.
