No new streets were taken to under the 106th seetion of the
Metropolis Local Management Act:—
UNEMPLOYED LABOUR.
Parish of Lewisham.
The number of labourers out of work this year has, I am glad
to say, considerably decreased. The Board, however, decided on
paving and forming Porthcawe, Relingue, and Maddin Roads,
Lower Sydenham. The work was carried out by local labour, as
far as possible. Special contracts were made for the purchase of
the necessary materials.
Mount Pleasant Road, Ivy Lane, and Westwood Park, which
were commenced prior to the 25th March, 1888, were completed
this year.
Hamlet of Penge.
The Penge Recreation Ground was finished this year, and
many of the labourers who would have possibly been out of work
were by this means employed.

From the following may be seen the new works carried out during the year :—
