Large lanterns, with twenty feet per hour burners, were
erected in Beckenham Road, at the Crystal Palace entrance, and
also opposite the Recreation Ground; in the Croydon Road, opposite
the National Schools, in Anerley Road, at the corner of
Croydon Road, and at the corner of Versailles Road.
Five ordinary lamps were discontinued at Beckenham Road

COLLECTION OF DUST.
Parish of Lewisham.
The difficulty of obtaining shoots for the dust and ashes,
which I have mentioned in my former Reports, has this year been
greater than ever, and no dust has been sold. The Blackheath
and Lewisham Division was divided into two sub-districts as heretofore,
but nearly the whole of the dust collected in the Sydenham
and Forest Hill Division was taken to Mr. Sykes's gravel pit, Perry
Hill.
The greater part of the work of collecting the dust in the
Parish of Lewisham was done by the Board's own horses and men,
with additional horses hired from the contractors when required.
The following Table shows how the dust was disposed of:—
Locality.
To whom given.
Blackheath, Loampit Yale, &c
Mr. Wm. Jerrard.
Lewisham up to llushey Green
Mr. Umfreville.
Mr. D. Phillips.

Mr. A. Sykes.
The Beckenham and Penge
Brickworks.
10,788 loads of dust were collected.
Hamlet of Penge.
The same difficulty which occurs in Lewisham has been experienced
in Penge, in consequence of the increasing scarcity of
shoots, and the whole of the dust had to be given away.
