The Board of Works for the Lewisham district.
In the year under review in the following pages the
Board were called upon to elect a new Clerk, and Mr.
Edward Wright, who at the time filled the office of Secretary,
was unanimously appointed to the vacant office, the
post of Secretary being at the same time abolished.
Mr. Wright has been connected with the Board since
18G7,—he was appointed Clerk's Assistant in August, 1868;
Assistant Clerk of the Board, May, 1873; and Secretary to
the Board, March, 1881. In all these positions Mr. Wright
acquitted himself with credit, and manifested a complete
mastery of the details of the Board's work and an intimate
knowledge of its previous orders, and the powers under
which the Board acted. It was therefore with much pleasure,
when the opportunity presented itself, that the members
were enabled to mark their confidence and approbation by
promoting Mr. Wright to the responsible and dignified
position of Clerk, in which capacity there is every reason to
believe Mr. Wright will acquit himself in a manner that
will reflect credit upon himself and the Board.
T. W. WILLIAMS,
CHAIRMAN.
